Acne Treatment

Acne is a skin condition that affects 95% of teenagers and adults at some time over their lives. Menopausal women are especially prone to acne breakouts due to hormonal changes.

In response to hormonal changes, the sebaceous gland (found in the hair follicle) produces too much oil, or ‘sebum’, which captures dead skin, debris and clogs up the follicles.

Bacteria builds up in the sebaceous (oil-producing) gland which travels up the hair follicle and out to the skin’s surface, this results in blackheads, whiteheads, red or pus-filled spots, and inflamed skin.

For Acne scar tissue please see “skin resurfacing” section.

WE can help treat acne by targeting its root causes by:

Killing Bacteria

Reducing Oil Production

Improving Skin Texture and Scarring

Laser and IPL treatments are especially helpful for people whose acne hasn’t improved with other treatments, like creams or medications.

The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts.

Our range of medical devices enable us to deliver effective treatments and even target redness or scar tissue left behind from previous outbreaks of acne. (See Scar service section for more info)

We offer safe and effective acne treatments for men and women for the face and body.

All treatments start with an advanced consultation so we can create a personalised treatment plan just for you.

Frequently Asked Question

How is the treatment carried out?

This depends on the individual and is determined during your consultation to establish your concerns and goals. We have a range of devices to create your bespoke treatment plan.

How does the treatment feel?

Treatments vary and can be relaxing or is mildly uncomfortable. Many people describe the sensation as similar to the flick of an elastic band. However, our Zimmer Cryo cooling systems can be used to make treatment as comfortable as possible.

The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person, but typically 6 sessions are required to see a significant improvement. Some people see an improvement straight away some need regular visits depending on the severity or breakouts.

If gel is used it is removed and the skin is moisturised. During treatment protective eye wear will be provided.

Am I suitable for laser acne treatment?

Almost everyone can be treated, apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals. If you are pregnant or taking Roaccutane it is best not to undergo treatment.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment the skin may appear red and a warm tingling sensation may be felt. Typically the skin is cooled with our Cryo cooling systems to ease any discomfort and a calming gel is applied.

Are there any side effects?

The treated area can become quite red immediately after treatment but this usually disappears within a couple of hours. Most people experience no other side effects but very rarely a small blister could form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.
